Valentine Cookie Recipe

Servings:
makes about 5 to 6 dozon cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
2 Tbsp. milk
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder

Directions:
Combine butter, sugar, eggs, extracts and milk in large bowl; blend well.
Stir in flour and baking powder; mix well.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm
(necessary if working in an over-warm kitchen).
Heat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C).
On lightly floured surface, roll dough out one-third at a time to 1/4 inch thickness.
Cut with floured cookie cutters.
Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake for 6 to 9 minutes or until edges are light brown.
Immediately remove and place on wire rack to cool.

Serving Suggestions:
Vary the cookie cutters used. Add frosting.
Or, I really like to dye half the dough with food coloring -
i.e. for Valentine's Day make heart shaped cookies using
two different size heart cookie cutters, so that the
inside is pink and the outside plain cream and vice versa.
